Risto Paldanius is an innovative energy executive with a history of delivering profitable 

growth, business turnarounds, and strategic innovation in the global energy sector. As 

the Vice President, Americas for Wärtsilä Energy, he is known for being bold and 

progressive in initiating business transformations, identifying market strategies across 

the Americas, and developing leaders and teams. 

Risto’s passion for future-proofing organizations began during his time working for GE 

Energy, Pöyry, and Fortum. Since joining Wärtsilä in 2010, he has broadened his focus to 

converting opportunities into impact, from navigating M&A and integrating new 

technologies to entering new markets such as powering data centers and advancing AI 

and digital initiatives. He believes meaningful change goes beyond spreadsheets and 

numbers. By fostering psychological safety, trust, transparency, and accountability, Risto 

enables teams to think boldly, grow as leaders, and succeed in a fast-changing energy 

landscape.
