Adam Nygaard

VP Business Development, FLEXGEN

Adam Nygaard is Vice President of Business Development at FlexGen, where he focuses on partnerships with private equity and financial investors advancing large-scale energy infrastructure. With more than 13 years at Duke Energy, Adam brings deep experience across Nuclear Spent Fuel Management, utility-scale wind and solar development, and regulated utility CHP and energy storage initiatives. During his tenure, he helped deploy 50 MW of energy storage across six sites for Duke Energy Florida and led development of an award-winning combined heat and power (CHP) project for Purdue University.

Adam previously served as Vice President of Investment at Harbert Infrastructure, where he led investments in utility-scale energy storage assets, including two 230 MW projects in CAISO. His background spans both project development and investment, giving him a unique perspective on aligning technical execution with financial performance.

At FlexGen, Adam works closely with project owners, infrastructure investors, and emerging high-load customers such as data center developers, to address growing power reliability and capacity challenges. He helps clients understand how battery energy storage can support data center power needs by addressing speed to power, transient load and power quality issues, resiliency, grid services participation, and long-term cost optimization. Adam emphasizes the importance of pairing storage assets with the right software, controls, commissioning, and lifecycle service strategy to ensure performance meets or exceeds the original investment pro forma.
